Valerie (Muse) Robinson went to her heavenly home on June 23, 2021. She loved life to the fullest and brought joy and beauty to everyone she met. Valerie was the oldest daughter of Eileen Downs (Curry) and Matt Downs (step-father), and was born in Pueblo, CO on September 27, 1957. She passed away peacefully at the age of 63 in Castle Rock, CO where she had lived the past several years.
Valerie had an exuberant childhood full of joy, laughter, creativity and adventure. Valerie was an inquisitive and intelligent child. She graduated from Centennial High School in 1975. Then she went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Colorado State University (Pueblo) with a bachelor's degree in mathematics (minor in computer science). She was such a brilliant and talented mathematician that the N.S.A. flew her to Washington, D.C. in an attempt to recruit her. She decided to pursue a different career and eventually settled into a senior program manager role, where she thrived due to her consistency of purpose, open communication style, and superb delegation skills.
Valerie became a wife and then a mother to her two children (Brooklynd and Breanna). Valerie was a devoted mother. She always attended important school events and prioritized the “little things” like weekly game nights, baking Christmas cookies, and playing a rousing game of “BUSTED” with close family friends. Her home was filled with laughter, singing, dancing and SLUMBER PARTIES.
A native Colorado girl, Valerie was a true adventurer in heart and spirit. Until her last day, you could find her and her two tiny dogs hiking an incredibly challenging (yet beautiful) Colorado trail, searching for treasures in eclectic Old Colorado City shops, or eating Mexican food and drinking a margarita (with a rejoiceful Olé) on an outdoor patio next to a fresh mountain stream.
The legend of Coco was born with the arrival of her first grandchild in 2014. She was a highly engaged and enthusiastic grandmother. Coco captivated the hearts of her 4 grandchildren with her creative and playful spirit. She went out of her way to find thoughtful and unique gifts that perfectly matched the interest of each grandkid.
Valerie had a deeply personal relationship with the Lord and was a true advocate for the people she loved. She often opened her home to young missionaries-in-training and supported single mothers who needed help getting back on their feet.
Valerie leaves behind a trail of beautiful memories that will forever be cherished by her daughters (Brooklynd Saar and Breanna Laski); mother (Eileen Downs); brother (Denzil Muse); sister (Laura Albo); four grandchildren; extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister (Mitzi Muse) and step-father (Matt Downs).
Valerie will be honored at a memorial service and reception at The Rock Church in Castle Rock on Friday, July 9th at 3:00pm.
