Richard "Dick" Jones Obituary

Richard Albert (Dick) Jones, 77, passed from this life on October 14, 2019, following a lengthy illness.  Dick was born on July 25, 1942, to Richard L. and Amanda Buckels Jones. He grew up in McComb Mississippi, and graduated from McComb High School in 1960.  He attended Southwest Community College before joining the Navy during the Vietnam War.  He served on the USS Casa Grande during The Bay of Pigs.  After being  honorably discharged from the Navy, Dick returned to Mississippi and attended Mississippi College, majoring in math and physics.

Dick married Connie Mills in 1969, and they had two children, Bobbi Lynn and Rebekah Ann.  In 1993, Dick married Sally Christensen and they had Richard Austin.  Dick is survived by his wife, Sally, his daughters, Bobbi (Robby) Hartness, Rebekah (Jerry) Buniger, and his son Austin Jones, stepson, Dan and stepdaughter Heather, six grandchildren, Luke (Madison), Casey, Randy Hartness, and William and Morgan David, and Katie (Chris) Francis.  He also had six step grandchildren Alex, Emily, Nicholas, Josh, Jaime, and Jeremy, two sisters, Anna (Chuck) Lambert and Mary Sue (Gregory) Posta, one uncle, Roy (Mary) Buckels and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In the early 1970’s, Dick established his own insurance company which he ran for many  years.  In later years, he owned and operated a highly successful limo company. Following retirement, his passion turned toward playing and teaching pool.  He played on several leagues and won numerous trophies including playing in a championship game in Las Vegas prior to becoming ill and having to pursue a more sedentary lifestyle.  As he battled his devastating illness for years, his world shrunk and in the end his focus narrowed to his family and his strong Christian faith. In his last days he was an avid prayer warrior and encourager.
