Nancy Cowan Obituary

Nancy Kraftsow Cowan, 70, of Green Mountain Falls, Colo., passed away peacefully on Monday, March 22, 2021. She was born August 5, 1950 in Sellersville, Pa. The daughter of Morton and Charlotte Kraftsow of Weaver, Ala., Nancy was a graduate of Anniston High School, Anniston, Ala. Nancy fell in love with a young Army lieutenant, Danny A. Cowan and eloped in March of 1970. They had a daughter, Stacey, 10 months later and shortly thereafter, Danny was sent to Vietnam. Unfortunately, he did not make it back and perished there leaving Nancy a young mother and widow. In 1973, Nancy, and her friend Chaela, packed their bags and drove across country to Green Mountain Falls where she lived ever since. She spent many years working as the Town Clerk for Green Mountain Falls. Nancy found much joy in gardening at High Valley and became a master gardener. Her favorite flower was a white iris. She loved watching cooking shows and showed her love for others by cooking delicious meals and baked goods for them. Nancy was the best Brownie leader and maintained relationships with her Brownies to the end. She loved watching her television shows like Big Bang Theory, the Price is Right and Law and Order. Nancy had quite the sense of humor and April Fool’s Day was important to her as she found many opportunities to play jokes on her friends and family. Nancy always looked for the good in everyone and a stranger was merely someone she had not yet met. She especially loved the girls in her book club and was most proud of her daughter and grandson. More recently, she volunteered at Aish of the Rockies. Nancy is survived by her daughter, Stacey Stegman Edling and her son-in-law Kevin Edling as well as her most-loved grandson, Dylan Stegman (Denver, CO). She also leaves behind her brother David Kraftsow and his wife Carol (Birmingham, AL); her younger sister Beth Dickens and Beth’s husband Jim; and her older sister Susan Mashburn and Susan’s husband Bob (Atlanta, GA). Nancy will be laid to rest with her husband at Fort Douglas Cemetery in Salt Lake City, Utah. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 3 at 1 p.m. at the Sallie Bush Community Building, 10795 Ute Pass Avenue, Green Mountain Falls, CO. Attendees should come prepared to share their stories and memories of Nancy. COVID rules will apply and masks are required. The celebration can also be viewed live on Nancy’s Facebook
