Michael "Jay-Jay" Kania II Obituary

Michael James “Jay-Jay” Kania II

Michael James Kania II, 55, of Aurora, Colorado, unexpectedly passed peacefully on December 17, 2023 surrounded by family. He was born on November 14, 1968, in Alton, Illinois. Michael, also known as “Jay-Jay” or “Jay”, was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend.

Jay-Jay was a very kind, happy, patient and resilient person. Despite facing multiple challenges, he remained strong and determined to overcome them. His disability did not define nor limit him. Jay-Jay found joy in swimming, riding Oliver his Hippotherapy horse, driving the pontoon boat, and making music in the Kania Jam Band. He loved being outdoors, whether it was catching rays in the summer sun or catching snowflakes on his tongue in winter.

Jay-Jay attended Fort Sanders Developmental Center in Knoxville, TN and graduated from Karns High School in the Knox County School System. He continued his educational journey beyond high school at the Schenectady ARC in Schenectady, NY.

Jay-Jay’s vibrant spirit and the joy he brought to those around him will be deeply missed. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew and loved him.

Jay-Jay is survived by his loving parents, Barbara and Michael Kania of Aurora, CO, two devoted brothers, Matthew Kania and wife Katherine of Cornelius, OR, and Marshall Kania and wife Melissa of Aurora, CO, and their children, Gracie Mae, Landon Marshall, and Annie Lynne. He is also survived by Aunt Joyce and Uncle Larry Kise, Aunt Bonnie and Uncle Ken Cox, Aunt Jean and Uncle Scott Haines, Aunt Pam Hiles and Uncle Jeremy Honeycutt, Uncle Mike and Aunt Laura Hiles, a boat-load of cousins, a cherished friend and dedicated advocate, Deb Ham, and his feline friends, “Purdy” and “Lehde”.

He was preceded in death by his birth mother, Cynthia Bluett; grandparents, Bernard and Mildred Kania, Byron and Mary Hiles, and Robert and Marion Purdy; Uncles and Aunts – Ben and Kathleen Kania, Judy and Norbert Milloshewski and Ed Kallal. Niece Annabelle Jean Kania also preceded him in death.

A  Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated in honor of Jay-Jay’s life on February 9, 2024 at 10am. It will be held at the Holy Rosary Chapel, 4435 Holiday Trail Cascade, CO, 80809.
