Mary “Mifi” Phelps Day of Gunnison Colorado passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday January the 4th of 2022, surrounded by her family, in her daughters’ home in Elizabeth Colorado.
Mifi, as she was known by her friends and family, was born in Hartford Connecticut on June 6th, 1932. She attended Kingwood Oxford School in West Hartford, CT. and Walnut Hill Academy in Natick, MA., during her High School years. She then attended Bennett Junior College, Hartford Junior College and Hartford Secretarial School.
In 1956 she moved to Colorado. She married and had six children. In 1984 she moved to Gunnison Colorado where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a mother and a housewife. In the 1970’s she was a volunteer at Pauline Memorial School, where her children attended. She was a docent at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. In her later years, she also volunteered at Gunnison Elementary, where her granddaughter attended, assisting with remedial reading.
Her death was preceded by her parents, George H. Day Sr. and Grace Allen Day, her sibling’s George Jr. and Jean, her son Jack P. Williams Sr., her beloved son in law Tim Galloway and her many loved dogs. She is survived by her daughter Susan (David) Kiggins of Greeley, CO., George (Kanya) Williams of Myrtle Beach, SC., Kimmi (Chris) Thomas of Castle Rock, CO., Kay (Aaron) Wiltfong of Penrose, CO., Margot (Jess) Williams of Elizabeth, CO., as well as her grandchildren Winn, Dominique, Chelsie, Kurtis, Grace, Hannah, Nathan and Cole, and her great grandchildren, Theo, Harper, Willa and Bode.
In leu of flowers, Mifi wanted donations made in her name to your local animal shelter, as Mifi was an avid dog lover.
