Leroy E. “Ed” Hoole died March 31st, 2024 in Parker, CO. Ed was born August 20, 1935 in McCook NE and grew up in San Diego County CA. His parents, Leroy E. Hoole Sr. and Margaret Hoole (Real), son Eric F, and wife Edith Hoole (Redington) predeceased him. He is survived by his son Elliott (wife Julie), daughter Emily (husband Øivind), and five grandchildren. Ed was a graduate of Chula Vista HS class of 1953 and San Diego State University class of 1957. He also attended UC Berkeley and did graduate work at Michigan State University.

After completing his education, Ed went to work for the US Army in San Francisco, CA and later transferred to Army Headquarters in the Pentagon where we worked in the Office of Budget Director. He became Deputy Director for Budget Management before retiring in 1988. At the time of his retirement, he was a graduate of the Federal Executive Institute and the Senior Executive Service.

While living in Northern VA, Ed became involved in local government affairs where he served as President of the Parklawn Civic Association, the Mason District Council and the Fairfax County Federation of Civic Associations. After retiring, he chaired the Citizens Budget Overview Committee appointed by the Board of Supervisors.

In 1991 Ed and Edith moved to Bryce Resort in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia where they lived for almost 22 years. During their time there, Ed was treasurer and President of the property owners association and the Lions Club and President of Bryce Resort. Once again, he participated in local government where he chaired the Commission on the Future of Shenandoah County and served two terms on the County Library Board where he was again Treasurer and President. While traveling in Europe, Edith and Ed survived the sinking of the MS Sea Diamond in April 2007 off Santorini Greece. In his spare time Ed learned to play golf and played three times a week but never became good at it.

When Edith's health deteriorated in 2013, Edith and Ed moved to a retirement community, The Legacy at North Augusta, in Staunton, VA where assisted living and independent living persons could live in the same apartment. Edith died in February 2015, and Ed continued to live there until February 2020 when he moved to Portland, Oregon to be near his brother. After his brother died in September 2023, Ed moved to Parker, CO to be near his son Elliott.

Ed was cremated in Parker, CO. A funeral service will be held in Bayse, VA in July, and his remains will be buried in Woodstock, VA next to his wife and son Eric.
