Jovita Young Obituary

Jovita “Jovy” Young was born in Yona, Guam on May 16, 1946, to Vicente and Gloria Mesa.  Jovy is survived by her son, Jason Young, daughter and son-in-law, Angelica and Michael Williamson (Madison), cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews (Nancy Mesa, Marlene Mesa, Annie Mendiola, William Mesa Jr., Andrew Mesa, and Inez Mesa).  She was predeceased by Vicente and Gloria Mesa, Isabel Cruz, Maria Cruz, William and Teresita Mesa, Glenn Mendiola, Fred Mesa, Florence and Manuel Balajadia, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Jovy was a caring mother, grandmother, aunt, godmother, sister, and friend.  She left this world on September 5, 2022, at the age of 76 in Parker, Colorado.

Jovy graduated from the Academy of Our Lady of Guam high school class of 1965. She decided to major in Nursing and minor in Education due to her innate desire to help people.  She was among the first graduates of the University of Guam’s Nursing Program class of 1968.  She earned her Master’s in 1972 with a degree in Guidance Counseling from the University of Nebraska, Omaha.

She worked as a Teacher and Counselor for the Guam Department of Education at various schools throughout the island.  She loved teaching so much that she taught abroad in Japan, Saipan, and Tinian.  She officially retired in 2019 to live with her daughter and granddaughter.  She served children and enjoyed every moment she spent nourishing their young minds.

Jovy loved to travel, eat spicy food, read, craft, spend time with family, enjoyed quality time with her son, Jason and most especially spending time with her precious “Maddie-girl”.  Her favorite phrase was “C’est la vie” and that was the motto she lived by.  When faced with difficulties in life, she never let it get to her.  Rather, always had a Plan A, B, and C.  She was a smart, funny, vivacious, independent, and strong woman.  She left a remarkable legacy, and her life will forever be cherished through the memories of those whose lives she touched.  She will be missed dearly.
