James Miller Obituary

James Arthur Miller was born to Arthur and Thelma (Young) Miller on November 5, 1937.  James passed away on April 1, 2023 at Suites of Parker, Colorado Care Center.

Brothers:  Jerald, Vern, Lee, Gene, and Leroy.  Sisters:  Rose and Mary Lou.

Attended and graduated from the Seibert Consolidated School first through twelfth grades. 

Played basketball, football and baseball.  Left handed pitcher in baseball.  Highlight:  Played in the State High School Basketball Tournament in years 1954 and 1956.  He played on the 1954 team, as did his brother, Lee.  This tournament was held at the Denver, Colorado Coliseum. 

After graduation in 1956, Jim entered the U.S. Army and served two years.  He served in the Reserves after the Army.  In June of 1960 at Fort Riley, Kansas for two weeks training. 

United in marriage to Helena Hase on August 8,1959 by R.L. Churchill at the Evangelical United Brethren Church at Seibert, Colorado.

Jim and his bride lived at Fairplay, Colo. where Jim was employed by Peter Kewitt Construction.  Jim was employed by Colorado Department of Transportation from 1960 to 1993.  Jim and Helena and two infant sons, Daniel and David moved to Castle Rock, Colorado  after David was born on his parent’s second anniversary. They moved to Kiowa, Colorado in 1962.  Son, Mark and daughter, Lisa was born after the move.  

Jim received a Governor’s Citation commending him for the outstanding service to the State of Colorado during the June 1965 flood crisis from Governor John A. Love on September 24, 1965.  After retiring from the Colorado Department of Transportation, Jim was a part-time employee of the Town of Kiowa, Colorado for seven years and then was employed at Spring Valley Golf course for two summers, as a maintenance man. 

Jim was passionate about sports and played town team basketball for Kiowa and  played town team baseball for Seibert, Colorado.  He coached Little League and Pee Wee baseball for Kiowa, Colorado.  All three of Jim’s sons played on the baseball teams.  Jim was proud of his children and his daughter, Lisa.  Lisa’s Kiowa Varsity volley ball team went to State and won Championship at State.

Jim served on the Kiowa School Board for several years. 

Jim and Helena celebrated their 50th anniversary at the Kiowa Creek Community Fellowship Hall with a Fifties theme.  Held on August 8, 2009.  It was wonderful celebration with family and friends.

Jim enjoyed fishing, golf and horseshoe tournaments.  One of the highlights was the annual fishing trips with the Miller brothers and their sons to Sanchez Resevoir near San Louis, Colorado. 

Jim enjoyed playing cards with some of his friends.  Also, at family gatherings with family members.

Jim attended the Kiowa Creek Community Church.  

Those preceding Jim in death were his grandparents, Frank and Belle Miller, Art and Thelma Miller, his brothers, Gerald (Mildred), Vern, Lee, Gene and sister, Rose and his brother-in-law Eugene Hase.

He leaves to mourn:  His wife, Helena, his children:  Daniel Miller, David (Christine) Miller, Mark (Christine) Miller, Lisa (David) Palm)

Grandchildre:  Angela (Garrett) Sanchez, Matthew Miller, Branden Miller, Lauren Miller, Ryan Miller, Willis Miller, Joshua (Erin) Palm Heather (Danyea Esgar) Palm, Alecia Palm Krista (Carlos) Pastrana, Leslie (Andrew) Baker, Cody (Brandy) Miller,  Great Grandchildren, Caden Avery, Leah Sanchez, Briley Palm, Marlo Palm (Esgar) Nathan Thompson, Audrey and Elsie Pastrana, Ridger and Decker Miller and Quinten Baker. 

 

Sister, Mary Lou Morton, brother, Leroy Miller (Kathy) Sisters-in-law, Kay Miller, Roberta Miller, Mary Hase.
