Girard Roundtree Obituary

On Friday, December 7, 2018, Girard “Roundie” Roundtree, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend passed away at the age of 66 years-old. He is preceded in death by his father and mother William and Janet Roundtree, and younger sister Pamela Roundtree. He will be forever remembered by his best friend and wife of 28 years, Victoria; his loving children Bryan and Daniel Roundtree, Anne and David Finchem, Arielle (Luke) Brozik, and Darian Roundtree; and his three grandchildren Aiden, Evelynn, and Adeline. He is also survived by his six siblings Sidney (Gwen), Dantrea, Randall, Diane, and Lisa Roundtree, and Tanya Perry (Frank). His kindness, wisdom, patience, and sense of humor will be dearly missed by family, friends, and the multitudes of people whose lives he touched throughout his own storied lifetime.

Girard was born in Niagara Falls, New York, on December 8th, 1951. He attended college where he studied physics for a period of time. He relocated to Colorado in 1979, where he worked as a powerplant mechanic. Although his career traversed a variety of professional fields throughout his life, Girard’s true passion was as an artist and painter, where he excelled in high-resolution acrylic and air-brush mediums. He is best known for his distinguished work in the conceptual field of science fiction—particularly, for his series of work with Star Wars, Star Trek, and other fantasy concepts. His artwork brought immeasurable joy and amazement to fans all over the world and to his closest family and friends who had the privilege of witnessing his creative genius. Before retiring in 2017, Girard worked for 10 years as a custodian at Rock Canyon High School, where he was beloved by staff and students alike, and where he was known for his annual, one-man art show.

Even more notably than his brilliant mind, wonderful sense of humor, and artistic accomplishments, he will be best remembered by loved ones for his immense heart, indomitable spirit, boundless kindness, and unflinching compassion towards others. He lived his life selflessly, and his generosity made us better and more caring people. We are forever indebted to him for the gift of time shared with him.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 15th, from 1:00-7:00 p.m., at the family home: 11432 Brownstone Dr. Parker, CO 80138.
