Edwin Shaw Obituary

Edwin “Ed” LeRoy Shaw left this earthly life on May 1, 2022 to tend to the garden, drum up a game of Farkle and reunite with his friends to share the next joke. More than likely, Bonnie has been baking so much she needed to recruit a helper in the kitchen. Ed had just celebrated his 82nd birthday surrounded by his family with amazing food from his favorite Colorado hangout, The Copper Pot (no salty dogs included this time!) The majority of his life he lived in the Oklahoma Panhandle, prior to being raised in Woodward, OK. In the early 70’s, he returned to the Eva/Yarbrough community to farm the homestead of Ross and Lillian Hart (Bonnie’s parents. Ed and Bonnie met at Oklahoma Panhandle State University and they quickly established loving homes in Goodwell and Guymon, Oklahoma; Dumas,Texas; Eva, Oklahoma; Parker and Aurora, Colorado. Ed’s family grew by two as he and Bonnie raised their daughters, Marquita DeAnn (Roy) Bohannan and Sheri Jean (Dave) Bryant. Roy Bohannan and Dave Bryant brought much joy to his life as the sons he never had and he was always proud of their successes. Ed was a “jack of many trades”. Some of his many occupations included summer lifeguard, serving in the Army reserves, working “the beat” as a Guymon police officer, operating and managing fast-food restaurants, delivering milk, carving meats as a butcher, operating Hart Farms, Inc. as a farmer/rancher, catching the highest bids with Lee R. Johnson in the auction ring, and creating true masterpieces for his many clients through his business, Ed’s Painting, for more than 30 years, until he retired to Colorado. One of his greatest talents was also being an incredible landscape artist in oil paintings. Many fun memories were shared when he and Bonnie managed the Arrowhead Drive-In located in Guymon, OK and The Depot Restaurant in Dumas, TX.. Their dynamic duo cooking team continued with concessions for the Texas County 4-H Clubs during the annual fair and livestock shows. Ed enjoyed watching his favorite westerns, a good game of Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, when he couldn’t get anyone to lose at Farkle or cards. His grandkids, Drey Scott Bohannan, Tricia Lynn (Bohannan) Bush and Nicole Danielle (Dorworth) Ehrichs, enjoyed many get togethers for learning canasta, baseball, Sputnik and basically, how to lose with your dignity still in tact, or trade back rubs if you were the loser of a game of Crazy 8…Grandad was competitive! Additionally, on those visits to Guymon, driving the “tractor” aka riding lawn mower was especially exciting. He also loved taking them for trips to Mr. Burger or Yesterdays so that everyone in town could see his beautiful grandkids. Furthermore, as the grandkids grew up and got married, Ed loved playing jokes on their spouses, Katie Bohannan, Josh Ehrichs, and Matt Bush, which could have included cups of water, getting “hypnotized'' or introducing them to Rocky Mountain Oysters/aka calf fries!
