Derek “Dirty” Alan Howe was born on March 16, 1992 in Littleton, CO. He departed this earth far too young at 27 on February 21, 2020 in Centennial, CO.
Derek LOVED his flannel shirts, and the family has asked that you enjoy wearing your favorite flannel shirt to his funeral mass as well.
Derek was the youngest child of 3, and his 2 older siblings never let him forget it. However, they were thick as thieves, and generally came clean to their parents because Derek couldn’t lie. He did everything he could to try to keep up with Joey and figured out pretty quickly that the way to do it was to be extreme. He was Britney’s biggest cheerleader.
Derek graduated from Elizabeth High School in 2010 and continued his education at Colorado Mountain College where he attained an Associate Degree in Business. He began mastering that at Cruisers Sandwich shop where he created the best sub sandwiches for many of his extended family and friends. And he was so humbly proud to be able to do it!! He spent some time after graduation in Steamboat, (where he earned the nickname Dirty) eventually moving back to the Denver area. Most recently, he intensely worked for Landtech Contractors as an Operations Manager. Derek was a perfectionist in all that he did, and it showed in both his work ethic and his adventures.
Derek was all things extreme. As a kid he enjoyed the “normal” sports, but quickly fell in love with mountainboarding and snowboarding. He did big air like it was a norm (after one deep breath). Boarder-cross tracks and terrain parks were his playgrounds. His love for the outdoors took him on many adventures. He loved to fly fish and recently became quite adept at tying flies. How he had the patience for THAT is amazing!
Derek is survived by his parents Kevin and Kathy, brother Joey, sister Britney, brother-in-law Marty, and his nephews Blake, Dauson and Kendrick Iversen, Grandma Ruth, Grandpa Murray, Grandpa Dan, Godfather and Uncle Brian, many special aunts and uncles, and many, many, many cousins, whom he loved to the extreme. He was preceded in death by Godmother and Aunt Katie, Grandpa Joe, and Grandma Emma.
We love him and will miss him to the EXTREME.
