Carol Gloria (Cronen) Bigbey

Carol Gloria (Cronen) Bigbey was born on December 27, 1948 to parents Vernon Cronen & Lorraine (Lanning) Moen and was one of nine siblings. She was born in Willmar, MN and lived in Clara City, MN until the age of 10 when her family moved from Montevideo, MN to Huron, SD. 

In 1967, she graduated from Huron High School and moved to Colorado where she later graduated from Cosmetology school with a full license and was known for the great haircuts she gave. After a few years, she went back to school to become a seamstress. She worked at Norman James Limited,  later moved to Joslins, and then finally to Saks Fifth Avenue where she was employed for 20 ½ years, until her retirement. Her time there also happened to coincide with the opening to the closing of the store. She was quite an accomplished seamstress and customers continued to use her for alterations even after she retired. She was also the go-to in the family for alterations to wedding dresses, formal wear…well anything! 

She was a Den Mother for her son’s Boy Scouts, sewed Halloween costumes, spent summers with family going boating to  Lake Powell and other area lakes, and she might stay up late to binge watch her new favorite series. She looked forward to spending time with her granddaughter, where she would also teach her how to bake and sew. She started quilting and also enjoyed crocheting. She was very creative and her family was often grateful recipients of homemade gifts from her talents!

She and her husband, Larry, were married in 1969 and would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary later this year.  They were proud parents to David and to their current four-legged baby, Dakota. Of course, nothing could compare to their role as grandparents to their favorite granddaughter, Ella. Carol and Larry enjoyed traveling both via motorcycle and motorhome to many parts of the country and continent. 

Carol was surrounded by loved ones as she passed away on March 8, 2023 at the age of 74. She is survived by her husband Larry Bigbey of Parker, CO, son David (Jenny) Bigbey of Elizabeth, CO, granddaughter Ella Bigbey of Elizabeth, CO, and siblings Bobby (Floyd) Condron of Parker, CO, Glenda Oakley of Huron, SD, Joe (Mary) Cronen of Littleton, CO, Robyne (John) Holforty of Centennial, CO, Richard (Dawn) Moen of Bolivar, MO, and Marlys Tracy of Parker, CO along with many nieces, nephews, friends & those who dearly loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon Cronen and Lorraine Moen, step-father Hans Moen, siblings Donna and David Cronen, brothers-in-law Herman Bigbey, Dwight Williams, and Dick Oakley, and great-niece Madyson Williams.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 2:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints French Creek Building, 17910 French Creek Ave., Parker, CO 80134.
