Mable Sherrill Obituary

Mable Anna Sherrill, 83, of Parker Colorado passed away on April 13, 2019 in Castle Rock, Colorado.  She was born on January 21, 1936 in Monte Vista, Colorado to Glenn C and Josephine E (Patterson) Davis of Saguache Colorado.

Mable grew up on a farm in the San Luis Valley and graduated from Center High School in 1955.  In her youth she was very active in 4-H, raising registered Corriedale Sheep, and Rainbow.  She won the ‘Make-it-Yourself with Wool’ competition with a beautiful wool suit she made. In 1953, she showed the Grand Champion Corriedale Ram at the All- American Corriedale Show in Columbia Missouri.  In 1958, she was selected to be an IFYE (International Farm Youth Exchange) delegate in Denmark for 6 months. Upon her return, she traveled throughout the state of Colorado presenting a slide show that documented her experiences at three different Danish farms.

Upon graduating from Colorado State University with a degree in Home Economics, she worked as a Home Demonstration Agent in Butte Montana for a year and then returned to the San Luis Valley where she became a Social Worker in Monte Vista Colorado.

In 1962 she married Roland Sherrill and they have two children, Kayrene and Eugene.  The family lived in Fort Collins, Leadville, Canon City and Northglenn.  In 1975, Mable and her children returned to Canon City where she became one of the top three Avon saleswomen in Southern Colorado for many years. In the late nineteen eighties, Mable went back to school and earned a Degree in Early Childhood Education. Upon receiving her degree, she worked in a daycare center where she thoroughly enjoyed the children and worked her way up to the position of Assistant Director.  In 1996, she began working as a caregiver to a wonderful elderly gentleman who lived in Hawaii and Michigan. Upon his death, she moved to Parker, Colorado with her daughter where she enjoyed working as a substitute daycare teacher until she retired in 2003.  Upon retirement Mable kept busy with her crocheting, knitting, TOPS, square dancing, church functions and visiting her siblings.

During her life, Mable was active in the Methodist Church and an avid square dancer.  She made all her square dance dresses and in later years, she learned to dance the man’s part to ensure she danced every dance.   She was a long-standing member of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) and achieved and retained KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) status until she could no longer attend the meetings.  She established new chapters in Hawaii & Parker and made many long-lasting friendships.  Mable enjoyed playing board and card games, and even established a group of ladies that met once a month to play games.  Her crocheting and knitting skills were remarkable and she made a lot of beautiful and intricate pieces that won awards at county fairs in Colorado and Michigan.   She made many lasting friends and will be remembered for her sunny disposition and smile.

She is survived by her daughter Kayrene Sherrill of Parker, CO, son Eugene Sherrill of Berkley, MI; a brother, Elbert Davis of Twin Falls, ID, sisters, Glennys Paulson of Buhl, ID and Zelma Wahl of Greeley, CO, plus a multitude of cousins and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents Glenn C and Josephine Davie; brother, Wayne Davis; and an infant sister, Doris.
