Donald LeRoy White, age 82, passed away in Parker, CO on June 17, 2018. Born June 8, 1936 in Fremont County, IA, Donald was active in the Scouts and his Church. He also worked various volunteer jobs, was the lead in the junior class play and was chosen as Prom King in his senior year at Riverton Consolidated School. Don went into the military right out of high school. While in the Air Force he obtained the rank of an A/1C. He was given the choice to continue as a Staff Sergeant or retire with the Eisenhower 6 month early out. Since the early out would have allowed him to have a better advantage with employment he chose that road. He received an honorable discharge and went to work in Phoenix, AZ as a outside collection man. Don moved back to Iowa six months later and his career took off with Hy-Vee Food Stores in Shenandoah, Des Moines and Ankeny, Iowa and was promoted to Manager in Maryville, Missouri in 1972 and later on transferred to Jefferson City, Missouri in 1981. He was known for making employees successful and giving them the tools, wisdom and experience they would need to advance in their careers which helped earn his store “The Store of the Year” several times in the 1970’s. There's was a running joke at Hy-Vee (back in the 80’s and 90’s) that if you didn't attend “Maryville University” under Don's guidance you wouldn't get promoted. Don retired from Hy-Vee after approximately 29 years and moved to Lee’s Summit, Missouri in 1991. Don’s hobbies included camping and traveling, but his passion was playing cards with his family, friends and relatives. On April 12, 1964 Donald married the love of his life, Ms. Shirley Ann Depke in Shenandoah, IA. They went on to have two wonderful children. Donald was also a member of the Riverton Masonic Lodge for over twenty years. Don is survived by his son, Russell White, daughter, Karee (Michael Rios) White, daughter-in-law, Rhonda Morrison White granddaughters, Sydney and Samantha White, grand-puppy Reggie White, Ronnie Magaw (Brother and family) and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann White and his parents, Glenn and Cleo White.
Funeral Services will be in Lee’s Summit, Missouri at Langsford Funeral Home beginning at 10am on June 23rd and inurnment services will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah, Iowa at 10am on June 25th.
