Donald Lawrence Burrell, age 88, of Elizabeth, CO, passed away peacefully surrounded by those he loved on November 13, 2017. Born in Plainfield, NJ on May 22, 1929, Don grew to be a kind, funny and compassionate man. He attended elementary and high school in Plainfield, then went on to two years of Union Junior College in Cranford, NJ and one summer session at Seton Hall university prior to entering the service in 1951. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in business from Ohio State University, as well as a degree in industrial management. Don was in the insurance business over 30 years, retiring from MetLife in 1989. When he retired he was the Regional Vice President in Denver, CO. Don loved golf, fishing, hunting and skiing. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the GAMA. On August 21, 1954, in Plainfield, NJ, Don married the love of his life, Ms. Patricia Palmore. Don was a First Lieutenant with the Air National Guard, then Don was promoted to Captain in the California Air National Guard. He graduated from USAF pilot training school in May of 1952. His tours of duty included service in Japan and Korea. Don is survived by his wife Patricia, of Elizabeth, CO; daughters, Donna Schwing (Mark), of Ashburn, VA, Stephanie Hoffman (Mike), of Greeley, CO, Joan Hadley (Mike), of Bloomington, IL, Margaret Beaumont (Tim), of Larkspur, CO and Laura Mann (John), of Littleton, CO; sons, Gregory Burrell (Cheryl), of Colorado Springs, CO and Matthew Burrell (Nicole), of Aurora, CO, and Michael Burrell, of Peyton ,CO; 20 grand children and 6 great grandchildren. Don was predeceased by his daughter Beth Ann Burrell, both of his parents and two of his siblings.
