Benjamin H. Brewer, 17, of Aurora, Colorado passed away Monday, July 2, 2018 after a lengthy battle with Neuroblastoma.
Ben was a reserved young man who went out of his way to avoid the spotlight. He requested that his earthly exit not be made into a big deal, so here are the basic facts he’d want you to know: Ben was born June 22, 2001 in Columbus, Ohio to Sarah and Matt Brewer. He had a sister named Madeline. He enjoyed playing video games and was especially fond of Nintendo. He battled cancer several times and had recently completed his sophomore year at Cherokee Trail High School in Aurora, Colorado.
What he wouldn’t say is that he battled Neuroblastoma for 14 years of his life. Every single recurrence of cancer was faced with his tenacious spirit. When one therapy didn’t work, he’d try another and along the way took part in new trials that are now a standard part of treatment. He believed that “No matter how hard it gets, never give up.” And he never did. He maintained his sharp wit and empathetic spirit despite his hardships. He was a wonderful son, loving brother, loyal friend and all-around hero.
Ben is survived by his parents, Matt and Sarah Brewer and sister Madeline, of Aurora, CO; aunt Cassaundra (Tony) Bellezza and cousin Gabriella Bellezza, of Kure Beach, NC; Grandfather Robert L Washburn, Jr. (Janet) of Columbus, Ohio; Grandmother Paula Brewer of Westerville, Ohio; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Benjamin was preceded in death by cousin Anthony R. Bellezza; grandmother Patricia Washburn; grandfather James M. Brewer; and aunt Ruth Brewer.
Ben’s amazing spirit will be celebrated Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the Highline Community Church, 6160 S Wabash Way, Greenwood Village, CO 80111. Service starts at 11:30 am with a reception to follow.
