J. Anita (Benitez) Chesher, Parker, CO; beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at age 92. She was born August 6, 1928, to Manuel & Ysidra Benitez and 16 siblings in Owendale, MI.
Anita was a life-long practicing Catholic having been baptized Sept 21,1928 and received her First Communion in 1936. She graduated high school in 1947 and received her Registered Nursing degree in 1951 from St. Mary’s Nursing School in Saginaw, MI. She remained in nursing throughout her career with the longest journey at Iowa’s Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines when she retired in 1994. She returned to nursing in 2000 to retire again in 2006.
She was married to Leo E. Chesher, on December 26, 1953. They established homes in Saginaw & Grand Rapids, MI as well as Norwalk, IA before settling in Indianola, IA in 1972 where she was a member of St Thomas Aquinas church. She remained in Iowa until 2006 when she moved to Colorado to live with family and joined Ave Marie Catholic Church in Parker.
She enjoyed traveling to visit family, cooking great Mexican food, and supporting activities at her church throughout her life. She is survived by her children, Bruno (Peggy) Chesher, Apple Valley, MN; Bridget (Chesher) Buck, Des Moines, IA; Brenda Chesher-Williams, Chapel Hill NC; Brian (Angie) Chesher, Parker CO; nine grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00am, July 10, 2021, at St Agatha Catholic Church in Gagetown, MI. Interment will immediately follow at the church cemetery
