Raymond “Ray” Stansberry, 77, of Aurora CO, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from a sudden heart attack.

Ray was born on December 12, 1939, in Moulton, Iowa. The family moved to Calif. in the early 50's. Ray graduated with BA from Cal Poly college in Pomona.

Ray spent most of his adult life working as an Aerospace Engineer. In the years before his retirement, he played an important role in a project for NASA called SOFIA, the largest airborne observatory in the world.

Ray and Rita moved to Heritage Eagle Bend in April 2003. He loved the community. He volunteered to serve on the Village Board.

Ray was a man of great integrity who loved his family and was always there for advice and comfort. He loved to read, play golf, and enjoyed traveling. For five years he and Rita were snowbirds in Casa Grande, Arizona, where they made many new friends. His dogs Baxter and Sophie were always by his side.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Rita, his children Susan Stansberry, Valerie Sheeley, and Tom Stansberry, his grandchildren Melissa Rodriguez, Meghan Hodge, Brandon Warren, and Alec Hodge, and great-grandchildren Brinley Rodriguez, Adelaide Warren, Silas Warren, Evan Rodriguez, Mila Baroody, Riley Baroody, and Ronan Warren, his brother LaVern Stansberry, and sisters Mary Moon and Sharon Stokes.

A private family memorial will be held on Monday, October 2, and an open house for friends and neighbors will follow on Saturday October 7.

He will be missed by many.
